Yasmani Grandal Begins Rehab Assignment with Barons
July 7, 2022 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release
Guess who's back, back again... That's right, for the second-straight year, Chicago White Sox catcher, Yasmani Grandal, is suiting up for Birmingham as he continues rehabbing his back spasms. Last year, Grandal landed in Birmingham for four games. Seemingly, the two-time MLB All-Star will be doing the same, as he's listed as the designated hitter for tonight's 7:05 pm ballgame against the Tennessee Smokies. Grandal will be playing in his first game since being placed on the 10-Day IL on June 13th.
Prior to his injury, the 33-year-old backstop played in 50 games at the MLB level while recording a .185 batting average, 15 runs-batted-in, and two long balls. Back in 2010, the Cincinnati Reds drafted the Havana, Cuba native with the 12th overall pick. Consequently, Grandal briefly faced the Barons in 2011 with the Chattanooga Lookouts. Of course, Regions Field wasn't around back then. Although Birmingham's far from a new place for Grandal, and the Magic City welcomes him with open arms, his tenure likely won't last too long, so come check out the big-leaguer before it's too late!
