Yard Dawgz tripped by Dorados rally

OKLAHOMA CITY- The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (6-5) traveled to Hidalgo, TX, where they took on the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (10-1). Coming into the contest, the Dorados were leading the league in several defensive categories, including sacks with 41. Oklahoma City boasted the best offensive line, allowing on 5 sacks prior to the contest. Despite their best efforts, the Yard Dawgz weren't able to overtake the Southwest Division leaders and fell to 6-5 on the season.

The Dawgz offense scored first on a 16 yard TD pass from QB Stan Hill to WR Pierre Velazquez. Rio Grande Valley didn't take long to answer back when QB Josh Kellett connected with Travis McAlpine for his first of 9 TDs passes on the night. The Dawgz scored two more times in the first due to a Danny Howard fumble recovery in the end zone and a Clarence LeBlanc interception return for a TD.

With 10:20 left in the second quarter, WR Al Hunt caught a 9 yard TD pass from Hill, giving the Dawgz a commanding 33-14 lead. Another TD pass by Kellett and a Tacoma Fontaine (OKC) rushing TD brought the score to 39-21 with 3:15 left in the first half. Oklahoma City saw their lead cut to 11 going into halftime when Dorados QB Josh Kellett connected with Coco Blalock as time expired.

Rio Grande Valley received the ball to start the second half and managed to take 6:27 minutes off of the clock orchestrating a score. The Dorados proved why their defense is one of the best in the league as they were able to hold the Yard Dawgz offense scoreless throughout the third quarter. The Dorados outscored the Yard Dawgz 35-13 in the second half, bringing the final score to 63-52 Dorados.

Stan Hill went 28-of-39 for 328 yards and 4 TDs. His main target of the night was veteran Al Hunt who had 11 receptions for 141 yards and 2 TDs. The offensive line wasn't able to hold back the Dorados defensive line, allowing 3 sacks on QB Stan Hill.

Rio Grande Valley's QB Josh Kellett went 20-of 37 for 312 yards and 9 TDs.

The Dawgz are home next week when they seek to avenge their season opening loss to the Florida Firecats. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. on Compassionate Care Hospice Field at the Ford Center.
