Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz defense came up big time and time again on Friday night, but no play was bigger than the last two plays of the game as they stopped the Memphis Xplorers short of the goal line to secure a 50-47 victory in front of 6,883 fans at the Ford Center. Jarrail Jackson was named Offensive Player of the Game for his performance. Jackson finished the night with nine catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns and five kickoff returns for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

The Yard Dawgz would jump out to a 7-0 lead at the 14:24 mark of the first on a 15-yard pass from Craig Strickland to Al Hunt. Memphis would respond right back with a five-yard pass from Michael Wall to Stephen Battle, but Xplorers kicker Nick Hayes would miss the extra point giving the Dawgz a 7-6 lead. The Dawgz would get back on the scoreboard at the 1:59 mark of the first quarter on a 25-yard pass from Strickland to Carlos Johnson giving the Dawgz a 14-6 first quarter lead.

Memphis would open the second quarter scoring as Wall would run in from the one-yard line cutting the Dawgz lead to 14-13 at the 10:16 mark of the second quarter. Then on the ensuing kickoff, Jackson would get the first of his two kickoff return touchdowns on the night. This one went for 55-yards and put the Dawgz up 20-13. Memphis would end the scoring on a Kevin Prentiss 16-yard pass from Wall making the halftime score 20-19 in favor of the Dawgz.

After a Memphis score to open the third quarter and give them their first lead of the night at 26-20. The Dawgz would get an 18-yard field goal from newly assigned kicker A.J. Haglund, cutting the Xplorers lead to 26-23.

The Dawgz would take the lead once again as Strickland found Jackson for an 11-yard touchdown making it 30-26 in favor of Oklahoma City at the end of the third quarter.

The teams would again go back and forth with the Dawgz getting the last score on a beautifully thrown pass from Strickland to Al Hunt for a 43-yard touchdown giving the Dawgz a 50-47 advantage at the 3:43 mark. The Dawgz defense would then come up with what looked to be the game securing interception as B.J. Barre picked off a Memphis pass in the end zone, but the Dawgz would turn the ball right back over to the Xplorers, as AL Hunt fumbled at the Oklahoma City 19-yard line and Khreem Smith would return it to the three-yard line.

The Dawgz defense would then come up even bigger than the interception as they stopped the Xplorers on not one, but two goal line runs and time would expire giving the Dawgz the victory.
