
Yard Dawgz Join New Arena Football One

OKLAHOMA CITY - Arena Football One was officially introduced on Monday, September 28, at press conference held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Long serving arena football executive, Jerry Kurz was introduced as the Commissioner of the newly created league that will unite former Arena Football League, arenafootball2 league and other indoor football teams under the Arena Football One moniker.
"I am extremely pleased and honored to have been asked to help lead Arena Football One, which is designed by ownership and highly dedicated to delivering the best arena football has to offer while serving as active, valued and integral members of their respective communities," Commissioner Kurz stated regarding his new leadership role.
Arena Football One will be based out of Tulsa, OK and will feature a minimum of 16 teams for the inaugural 2010 season, including the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. A total of 24 teams have submitted applications for membership, although additional locations and markets will receive consideration for inclusion through Friday, October 9, 2009. A final roster of markets/teams and alignment will be announced by mid October.
Additional structural and organizational details involving league schedule, rules and regulations will be determined and made available upon being finalized.
The initial sixteen teams and their respective markets are: Arizona, Arkansas, Bossier-Shreveport, Central Valley (Fresno, California), Chicago, Iowa, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Milwaukee, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Spokane, Tennessee Valley (Huntsville, Alabama), Tri-Cities (Kennewick, WA), Tulsa and Utah (Salt Lake City).
The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz were a member of the arenafootball2 league for six seasons and made the playoffs in five of those seasons. Although the league name may change, the Yard Dawgz will continue to use the same name, colors and logo.
Yard Dawgz Owner Phil Miller, along with the other fifteen owners, put a great deal of time and energy into the formation of the new Arena Football One and remains committed to keeping fan friendly, affordable arena football in Oklahoma City.

The Yard Dawgz will play all their 2010 home games at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The regular season begins in April and runs through July with playoffs in August.
