Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (0-1) struggled early against the Jacksonville Sharks(1-0) in the 2010 home opener. The Sharks used a relentless pass rush and a strong second half performance by Aaron Garcia to hand the Dawgz their first loss of the new season.

The Yard Dawgz received the opening kick-off of the 2010 season and took little time to score the franchise's first Arena Football League touchdown on a 5-yard pass from QB Tommy Grady to WR Al Hunt. The Sharks answered with a touchdown pass of their own from AFL Legend Aaron Garcia to WR Jomo Wilson. The Dawgz were stopped on their next drive after a ball bounced off of Hunt's hands into the awaiting arms of DB Dee Webb.

Both offenses struggled in the second quarter combining for a total of ten points. The Sharks scored on a 2-yard run by Wilson, while the Dawgz added a 18-yard field goal.

The action picked up rapidly in the third quarter as the teams exchanged touchdowns to begin the scoring spree. The Sharks started the scoring with a touchdown pass from Garcia to WR Jeron Harvey, but the Yard Dawgz responded quickly with a 24-yard touchdown from Grady to WR Timon Marshall. Despite an injury in the first quarter, Garcia continued to heat up, throwing two more touchdowns, one each to Harvey and Willis.

In the fourth quarter, the story was special teams as the Sharks scored twice, once on a loose ball off the net and then again when the Sharks receiving team took the Yard Dawgz onside kick attempt for a touchdown. The Dawgz tried to get back into the game after DB David Hyland took Garcia's errant pass 54-yards for a touchdown, but were unable to get any momentum going. The Sharks added a late touchdown to put the Dawgz away.

The Yard Dawgz return to the Cox Convention Center against the Cleveland Gladiators on Saturday, April 17, following the teams first bye week. Yard Dawgz single game tickets are on sale, starting at only $10! The Yard Dawgz Block Party will begin at 5:00 PM on Reno and kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
