OKLAHOMA CITY-The Yard Dawgz fifth season begins Saturday, April 5th and the team has made final roster decisions. Nearly three weeks of training camp and several intersquad scrimmages have helped Head Coach Gary Reasons and the coaching staff narrow the final roster to 25 players.
Leading the Yard Dawgz on the field this season are several members of last year's squad, including: WR Al Hunt, OL/DL Barry Giles, and WR Danny Howard.
WR/DB Hunt, the only holdover from the inaugural team, has had a huge influence on the team's past success. Last season, Hunt had 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and 25 touchdowns and was named to the National Conference All-af2 First team. Hunt received second team All-af2 honors in 2005 and first team All-af2 in 2004. He was also awarded second team All-Conference when he was with the Yard Dawgz division rival, the Tulsa Talons.
OL Barry Giles will anchor the offensive line for a fourth season. The former Oklahoma Sooner was one of the most consistent players for the Yard Dawgz last season and received National Conference All-af2 First Team honors.
WR Danny Howard exploded onto the offensive scene in 2007. He played in 12 games for the Dawgz and had 30 receptions for 1,106 yards and 22 TDs. He was awarded as the Schutt Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against the Boise Burn.
The Dawgz also welcome a host of new faces, including QB Evan Gray, DB Andre Burns, and OL/DL Alonzo Mayes.
All Yard Dawgz games are broadcast on JOX 930 and home games will be broadcast live on KSBI, Channel 52.
