July 26, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Fort Mill, SC - Chris Dickerson missed the first two games of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (59-47) current series with the Charlotte Knights (61-46) due to tightness in his lower back. The Yankees were happy to see their leadoff man didn't miss three in a row. Dickerson went 4-6 with two homers and three RBI's as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre moved back into first place in the IL North with an 8-7 win over the Knights.

For the third consecutive game in the series Scranton/Wilkes-Barre drew first blood scoring one run in the top of the first inning on a Dickerson homer to right center off Charlotte starter Simon Castro for a 1-0 lead. The Yankees left some potential runs on the field however as with one down Eduardo Nunez singled; stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Following a walk of Jack Cust SWB had runners on the corners with one down. Castro struck out Brandon Laird and Kosuke Fukudome grounded out to end the threat.

The Knights tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning on a two out double from Hector Giminez and an RBI single from Jared Mitchell off starter Ramon Ortiz (WP, 9-3). The Yankees retook the lead at 2-1 on back-to-back two out doubles from Laird and Fukudome in the top of the third inning.

The back and forth continued with Charlotte picking up five runs in the home half of the third with a pair of long home runs off Ortiz. With two on and one out Drew Garcia took Ortiz out over the wall in center field for a three run shot. Garcia's fifth of the season gave the Knights a 4-2 lead. After a fly out to left by Dan Johnson and a single from Conor Jackson, Dallas McPherson hit his second HR of the season off Ortiz. The second HR of the inning, the second over the wall in center, ran the Charlotte lead to 6-2.

The Yankees chipped away off Castro scoring one run in the fourth inning and tying the game at 6-6 with a three run sixth. Corban Joseph picked up the first of his two RBI's on the night scoring Darnell McDonald who led off the inning with a walk. SWB opened the sixth inning with three straight hits off Castro including an RBI single by Kevin Russo scoring Cervelli. Castro's night was done as he was replaced by left hander Daniel Moskos. The southpaw allowed an infield single to Dickerson to load bases before walking Joseph and Cust to tie the game at 6-6. Reliever Anthony Carter (LP, 2-4) saved the game for the Knights for the moment entering the game with the bases loaded and one down striking out Laird and Fukudome in back-to-back at bats to keep the game tied.

Dickerson gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the lead back in the top of the seventh inning with his second homer of the game with a two run drive to right center off Carter giving the Yankees the advantage at 8-6.

Ortiz pitched to two batters in the seventh inning before giving way to Juan Cedeno who got out of a two on none out jam in his first inning of work. The Knights would get a run off Cedeno in the eighth inning on a single by Josh Phegley scoring McPherson who reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a single by Jared Mitchell.

Manny Delcarmen (SV, 3) pitched a one, two, three ninth striking out two Charlotte hitters including Johnson to end the game preserving Ortiz's ninth win of the season.

The Yankees and Knights wrap up the series Friday night at Knights Stadium with a 7:15 PM first pitch. Right hander Adam Warren (5-6, 3.65) will get the start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre while left hander Charlie Leesman (8-8, 2.65) is slated to make the start for the Knights.
