
Yankees Walk-Off 7-6 in Marathon Over Cardinals

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (20-20) and the Palm Beach Cardinals (18-22) played two games worth of baseball on Friday night and into Saturday morning at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Dante Bichette Jr. ended an 18-inning game with an RBI single to right field, giving the Tampa a 7-6 win over Palm Beach.
Wes Wilson (1-0) played the first 14 innings at catcher for Tampa before coming on to pitch the top of the 15th. The righty Wilson picked up his first professional win after tossing four scoreless inning of relief, facing one over the minimum. Wilson surrendered one hit and struck out three in his pitching debut.
Third-baseman Bruce Caldwell (1-1) took the loss for the Cardinals after allowing an unearned run in the 18th. The righty pitched three and a third innings of relief, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three.
Palm Beach struck first by taking a 2-0 lead in the second against RHP Nick Goody. With a runner on first and two outs, David Washington crushed a home run into the Walgreens Deck in right field.

The Cardinals responded with a two-run fifth. With two on and two out, Anthony Garcia drove in two runs with an RBI triple, giving Palm Beach a 4-2 lead.
Tampa tacked on one run in the bottom of the fifth. Wilson led off with a walk and advanced on a single by Anderson Feliz. One out later, Wilson scored on a groundout by Cito Culver.
In the 7th, the Cardinals regained a two-run lead. Garcia batted with runners on the corners and drove an RBI single down the left field line, giving Palm Beach a 5-3 lead.
Angelo Gumbs proved to be clutch for the Yankees in the eighth. Bichette and Eric Jagielo each singled with one out. After a strikeout by Zach Wilson, Gumbs delivered a game-tying RBI double to left-center field.
A 5-5 tie moved into the 12th.
Starlin Rodriguez led off the inning with an infield single and advanced on a wild throw by Tampa RHP Phil Wetherell. Rodriguez later scored on an RBI single by David Washington.
Tampa rallied to re-tie the game in the bottom of the 12th. Culver singled and Greg Bird doubled, placing runners on second and third. One out later, Jagielo reached on an intentional walk. A sacrifice fly by Zach Wilson scored Culver from third, tying the game at 6-6.
Feliz led off the bottom of the 18th and reached as Breyvic Valera dropped a pop-up at third base. Jake Cave followed with a double to left field. After a strikeout by Culver, Bird loaded the bases by reaching on an intentional walk. The Cardinals formed a five-man infield, leaving two outfielders with Bichette at the plate. Bichette flew a ball to deep right field, allowing Feliz to score the winning run.
The T-Yanks continue the series with the Cardinals on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Steinbrenner Field. LHP Conner Kendrick (0-1, 4.66 ERA) is scheduled to start for Tampa. RHP Silfredo Garcia is expected to make his Palm Beach debut by receiving the nod.
Saturday is Friends and Family Night at George M. Steinbrenner Field, sponsored by Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. For just $38, a family of four can enjoy a four-pack of reserved tickets, hot dogs, chips sodas and Tampa Yankees caps as well as two passes to Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. Prior to the game, kids are welcome to run the bases from 5-5:15 p.m. and receive player autographs on the concourse from 5:10-5:30 p.m. Tomorrow's game will conclude with a fireworks show sponsored by Bright House Networks.
