Pulaski River Turtles News Release
PULASKI, Va - The Pulaski Yankees fell behind 3-0 to the Burlington Royals, and an epic rainfall at Calfee Park put an early end to Wednesday's night baseball game.
Marcelo Martinez tossed a complete game on the mound for the Royals and received credit for the shutout for going six nearly perfect innings, allowing only one hit, no walks and 12 strikeouts. Burlington tallied the eventual game-winning run in the third inning, followed by a pair of insurance markers in the fifth inning before the rain arrived.
Pulaski starting pitcher, Wellington Caceres returned to the mound for the first time since July 8th after batting injury. In the third inning Caceres reached his 45 pitch limit set by the organization and was removed after 2.2 scoreless frames. Justin Wilson entered the game in relief and allowed a walk, followed by a stolen base and a RBI single by Juan Carlos Negret into centerfield to open the scoring.
In the fifth, Matt Morales tripled on a full count off Wilson to right center field to score Montae Bradshaw. With two outs in the inning, Morales scored from third on a wild pitch with Negret at the dish to round out the scoring.
With the defeat, the Burlington Royals clinch the three-game set over the Pulaski Yankees. The Yanks return to Calfee Park tomorrow at 7pm for the series finale. It's Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, where fans can enjoy discounted beers throughout the night. Ticket information is available on pulaskiyankees.net.
