Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (21-28), presented by Towne Properties, could not prevail in their return home and lost 7-4 against the New York Boulders (27-20) at Thomas More Stadium on Friday.
Both teams started quickly offensively on a hot day in Florence, and New York drew first blood in the first inning. Facing Y'alls All-Star righthander Nate Florence (3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), the Boulders' second baseman Tucker Nathans doubled with two outs. Two batters later, left fielder David Vinsky singled home Nathans for the first New York run.
In the second, the Y'alls answered with two of their own. Back-to-back doubles from shortstop Jeremiah Burks and left fielder Lane Hoover plated the first run before first baseman Craig Massey singled home Hoover to make it 2-1 Y'alls. New York wouldn't waste time in the third and scored three of its own on a three-run home run off the bat of third baseman Thomas Walraven. The long ball gave New York a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
The Y'alls rallied again in the third with two more runs. After singles from designated hitter Brennan Price and second baseman Harrison DiNicola, right fielder Ray Zuberer doubled both in with a liner down the right field line. Zuberer's hit tied the game 4-4 after three innings of play, but New York took the lead for good in the very next inning.
Facing Y'alls righthander Rodney Hutchison Jr., New York used the home run ball to grab another lead. A one-out walk to designated hitter Joe DeLuca brought up right fielder Giovanni Garbella, who hit a two-run home run to put the Boulders ahead 6-4. Two batters later, center fielder Pat Kivlehan hit his twelfth home run of the year to increase the New York lead to 7-4.
Neither team would score again in the contest. Florence could not rally against New York closer Dylan Smith in the ninth and dropped its ninth consecutive game. The Y'alls have now lost 17 of their last 21 games ahead of Saturday's middle game. Game 2 between Florence and New York is scheduled for 6:36 p.m. ET at Thomas More Stadium.
