Sioux City Explorers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Sioux City Explorers offense got a major boost today when they acquired OF Carlos Arroyo in a trade with Edmonton of the Golden Baseball League in exchange for RHP Paige Dumont. Arroyo will serve as the third of the team's four allotted veterans along with Walter Young and Alex Llanos.

"Adding a career .320 hitter to our batting order that can also run helps our ball club in many ways," comments manager Les Lancaster. "Knowing he can play outfield or first base also gives us some flexibility in the field and I cannot wait to see him in our line up."

Arroyo comes to Sioux City after having a huge season in the Golden Baseball League in 2008. In a league leading (87) games, Arroyo hit .377 (4th in the GBL), while collecting a league leading (134) hits, (29) doubles (2nd in the GBL) while scoring (70) runs, compiling (67) RBI's, and stealing (22) stolen bases to go along with a .490 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .434. Arroyo also led the league in strikeouts to total plate appearances with a 1/15.76 (SO/TPA).

The 2009 season will mark Arroyo's 10th season in professional baseball and first season with the X's. For his career, Carlos has a lifetime .320 batting average while accumulating (919) hits, (149) doubles, (123) stolen bases, (461) runs and (400) RBI's.

The 27 year-old Cartagena, Columbia native whom now resides in Surprise, AZ began his professional career in 1999, when the Seattle Mariners signed him as a non-drafted free agent on October 11th, 1999. After playing for (7) seasons in the Mariners organization, Arroyo started his Independent career in 2007 with the Macon Music of the South Coast League before joining the Edmonton Cracker Cats of the Golden Baseball League in 2008.
