Indiana AlleyCats News Release

Pittsburgh, PA (March 4, 2007) - The Pittsburgh Xplosion were too much for the Indiana Alley Cats to handle tonight. Despite rallying from an eleven point fourth quarter deficit, the Alley Cats couldn't climb all the way back in overtime and fell by a final score of 108-104.

Indiana (20-19) was able to claim two quarter points in the loss. They nudged the Xplosion (6-33) in the first quarter 26-25. Pittsburgh rallied back to take the second quarter and had a 55-47 advantage at the half. Shaun Fountain led the Alley Cats with 11 points in the first half, while Lawrence Baker had 12 for Pittsburgh. The Xplosion edged the Alley Cats in the third by one and had a nine-point lead heading into the fourth.

Indiana fought back the entire fourth quarter and was able to cut Pittsburgh's lead to one with 40 seconds to go. After Lewis Monroe missed two free throws, newly acquired Brandon Brantley missed a shot with 25 seconds to go. Rob Griffin canned two free throws to give the Xplosion a three-point lead. Fountain knocked down a game tying three-pointer with eight seconds to go in regulation. After Griffin turned the ball over, the Alley Cats called a timeout with two seconds to go. They advanced the ball to half court and Chandler Thompson missed a three at the buzzer that would have won it.

The game went back and forth in overtime. Fountain converted on a nice up-and-under move to cut the deficit to one with 26 seconds remaining. After Griffin nailed two free throws again, Thompson got fouled in the act of shooting. He made the first and missed the second, but was able to grab his own rebound. He put the ball back up, but didn't convert and the Alley Cats were forced to foul with nine seconds to go. Griffin converted on both free throws, which all but ended the game.

Fountain continued to stay hot for the Alley Cats, as he finished with 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Josh Murray added 18 points and 8 rebounds in his second game with Indiana, while Brantley had 12 points and 7 rebounds in his debut. Carl Edwards tallied 16 points and 7 rebounds, but shot poorly from the field (7 of 18).

Griffin paced the Xplosion with 30 points. Baker tallied 22 points and 7 rebounds, while Corey Minnifield recorded a double-double (18 points and 12 rebounds). Monroe almost finished with a triple-double as he had 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The Alley Cats will head back to Albany for a contest against the Patroons on Tuesday night. Tip off is set for 7:35. Indiana Alley Cats season tickets and single game tickets are currently on sale.
