Xplorers to support troops at June 17 game

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Memphis Xplorers are teaming up with the Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors, the Northwest Chapter of ABATE of Mississippi, First Tennessee Bank, Sam's Town Casino and Miller Lite to hold a "Support Our Troops Night" at the Saturday, June 17 game with the Birmingham Steeldogs at the DeSoto Civic Center. Kickoff that night is 7:05.
The night will include numerous events and fan giveaways. The main focus of the night will be a special tribute to Troop 1687 Transportation Company of Southaven, soon to be deployed to Iraq, as well as all other members of the armed forces.
The Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors is the presenting sponsor of the Support Our Troops Night. The NWMAR has established the DeSoto County Military Emergency Relief Fund. Fans can donate to the fund by purchasing special $15 tickets. For every one of those tickets sold, $6 will go to the fund to support the troops and help their families.
Fans are also being rewarded for coming out to the game . The first 500 fans 12 and under will receive a collectible youth jersey courtesy of First Tennessee Bank. The first 1000 fans will receive miniature American Flags and the first 500 adults will also get a Miller Lite Can Koozie.
The players will also be getting involved. Sam's Town Casino is sponsoring military themed jerseys that the Xplorers players will wear during the game. A live auction will follow the game in which the jerseys will be auctioned off to fans with the proceeds benefiting the DeSoto County Military Emergency Relief Fund.
The military theme will not end with the jerseys. The national anthem will be sung by a member of our armed forces and the US Army will also provide the Color Guard during the anthem.
The NWMAR and the Northwest Chapter of ABATE of Mississippi are helping to coordinate support and get the word out about the game through their many contacts. ABATE will also be holding a bike rally before the game in the parking lot at the DCC.
On top of all of this, the Xplorers, ABC 24 and Memphis area Giant TV stores will be giving away a big screen TV at halftime. People can register to win the television and Xplorers tickets at the four Memphis area Giant TV locations.
