Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 returned to the form of a month ago Saturday night, defeating the Bakersfield Blitz 59-31 before 3,069 fans at the DeSoto Civic Center

Xplorers receiver Kevin Prentiss, in his first game back from an injury, performed brilliantly in the offensive set, catching 9 balls for 112 yards and four touchdowns. Prentiss was voted the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the game.

He had serious competition from QB Michael Wall, who the Xplorers acquired in a trade earlier this week. Wall, who entered the game when starting QB Brian Jones was injured late in the first half, threw for five touchdowns and 159 yards on 13-for-20 passing. Jones was fairly efficient before the injury, completing 7 of his 14 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown.

The Xplorers defense came up huge during the game, intercepting Bakersfield QB Chad Elliott twice and sacking him three times. Memphis's defense shut down the Blitz when it counted most, as Bakersfield went 0 for 5 on third down conversions and 0 for 1 on fourth down conversions.

Xplorers DS Dahnel Singfield won ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors, garnering several pass deflections and a spectacular, one-handed interception at the goal line late in the game. WR/DB LeJuan Edwards, playing two-way for the first time this season, won the Army Ironman of the Game award.

The much-needed Xplorers win pushed their record to 5-5 on the season, while Bakersfield slipped to 6-4. Memphis will be in action again this coming Friday, as they travel to the east coast to take on the Manchester Wolves. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM CST.

All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC, and worldwide on SportsJuice.com. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio. Fans can also watch the Xplorers during selected games during the season on AF2TV.com, which offers live streaming video and audio on a pay-per-view basis.
