Xplorers Prepare For Final Weekend Of Camp

SOUTHAVEN, Miss â The Memphis Xplorers begin their final weekend of training camp tonight.
The team will practice Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the roster being cut to 21 players Sunday night. The Xplorers open the 2003 af2 season on April 5th at Columbus. The home opener is set for April 12th against Bakersfield. Call (662) 280-3737 for tickets or go online to www.xplorersaf2.com ..
"We have been very pleased with how camp has gone thus far," Xplorers head coach Danton Barto said. "Everything has been very positive. We got hit by some injuries early in camp, but guys are recovering nicely."
The majority of training camp has been held in the DeSoto Civic Center parking lot in the southeast corner. With a full turf field and walls around the east half, it has been a unique experience.
"No one has ever done this before," said Barto. "Once or twice weather became an issue, but other than that it has gone smoothly."
Competition has been fierce as players fight for one of the coveted 21 spots on the opening roster.
"We have been lucky to have a lot of talent in camp," Barto continued. "Guys know that they have to earn a spot, nothing will be handed to them."
