Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2, riding their first three-game winning streak of the season, will look to set a new standard franchise excellence as they take on the Cape Fear Wildcats this Saturday, July 3 at the DeSoto Civic Center.
The Xplorers, coming off the franchise's first-ever victory over the Tennessee Valley Vipers last week, will attempt to win four games in a row for the first time in franchise history this weekend, while at the same time set a new Memphis record for wins in a season with eight.
They will face a Cape Fear squad that has been a standard of excellence in their own right in af2 for the duration of their existence. The Wildcats, currently 8-3 and in excellent position to make the playoffs, enter Saturday's game on a five-game winning streak of their own.
If the playoffs were to start today, the Xplorers would earn their first trip to the post-season in team history. But Memphis still has a great deal of work to do to secure that spot. The Xplorers sit a full game ahead of Columbus for the 6th and final spot in the American Conference playoff chase, with several other teams sitting within striking distance.
The flip side of the coin, however, is that Memphis is only two games out from the top playoff spot in the conference. In a year dominated by parity, the Xplorers have the opportunity to play their way to the top of the regular season standings.
Game time this week is scheduled for 7:05 PM CST, with pre-game scheduled for approximately 6:55 PM. All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC, and worldwide on SportsJuice.com. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio. Fans can also watch the Xplorers during selected games during the season on AF2TV.com, which offers live streaming video and audio on a pay-per-view basis. For more information, contact the Xplorers office at 662-342-1755.
