Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The 2005 ArenaCup Champion Memphis Xplorers of the af2 announced today that defensive lineman Jordan Brumbaugh has been assigned to them by the league office. Brumbaugh was a highly touted defensive end out of Tuskegee University of the SIAC after his senior season in 2004, but sat out the 2005 season after not getting the NFL opportunity that he expected.

"I expect Jordan to come in and be a dominating pass rusher," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "We have set the bar high here with pass rushers and we believe that Jordan has the opportunity to be better than any of them."

The 6-foot-4, 262 pound DeLeon Springs, Florida native finished his three seasons at Tuskegee with 22 ½ sacks and 178 total tackles. He set the single season school record with his 15 ½ sacks in 2004. That total also led the SIAC and was fourth nationally in Division II. He earned first-team All-SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) honors in 2004 and was rated in the top 20 among all defensive ends going into the 2005 NFL Draft.

He also performed well in the 2 all-star games he played in his senior season: The Villages Gridiron Classic in The Villages, Florida and the Las Vegas All-American Classic. He recorded 2 sacks, 2 ½ tackles for loss and 6 total tackles as the only Division II player at the Gridiron Classic. In Las Vegas, he picked up 1 sack, a tackle for loss and 4 total tackles.

Tuskegee went 25-9 and won a SIAC title during Brumbaugh's three years there. He transferred from Middle Georgia College in 2002.

The Xplorers had five offensive and/or defensive linemen move up the AFL after last season including Lineman of the Year Khreem Smith who led the af2 in sacks with 17. Memphis had a total of 11 players sign with AFL teams for 2006.
