Xplorers announce partnership with 730 ESPN Radio
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 and 730 AM ESPN Radio in Memphis announced today that the station will be the radio home of the Xplorers for the 2006 season. 730 AM ESPN Radio will air all 16 of the defending ArenaCup Champion's regular season games and all playoff games. The station will also be the home of the team's coach's show with head coach Danton Barto on Monday evenings at 5 p.m. The Xplorers' season opener is Saturday, April 1 at Tennessee Valley at 7:30. The home opener follows a week later versus Florida on Saturday, April 8. The first coach's show is set for Monday, April 3.
"We are thrilled to be partners with a championship organization," 730 AM ESPN Radio Program Director Jon Madani said. "730 ESPN is in Memphis to win, and what better way to convey that than to team up with the defending champion Memphis Xplorers. The ESPN brand name is synonymous with credibility but also with a certain pace and energy that is a perfect fit for the Xplorers and af2."
ESPN Radio 730 AM (KQPN) began their sports programming in the Memphis market on August 1, 2005 and has steadily established itself as a viable and reliable cornerstone of Memphis Radio.
The Xplorers had the best season in their history in 2005 as they went 13-3 in the regular season and then swept through the playoffs on their way to a 63-41 win over Louisville in the ArenaCup Championship on August 27.
"This is a perfect fit for the Xplorers," Xplorers Director of Broadcasting Jim Erickson said. "To be affiliated with ESPN Radio definitely gives our broadcasts instant credibility. It should be an exciting season as we strive for a second consecutive league title."
"The Xplorers offered us a chance to broadcast football, fast-paced indoor football and last but not least championship football," Madani added. "This was not a difficult decision for 730 ESPN."
The broadcasts of the games and the coach's show will also be audio streamed via 730 ESPN's website at www.730espn.com.
The Xplorers open training camp on Monday, March 13 at the Pyramid in Memphis.
