Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 will play host to the Rio Grande Valley Dorados with a trip to Bossier-Shreveport, Louisiana and participation in the 2005 ArenaCup on the line. This is the first ever meeting between these two teams in af2 league history.

The Xplorers won their first playoff game last Friday night against the Amarillo Dusters 71-30. Memphis took a nine-point lead into the locker room at halftime, and then pulled away in the third quarter with the help of 20 unanswered points. Memphis was led by US Army Ironman Terrell Adams, who was responsible for six touchdowns-two rushing, two receiving, one passing, and one on a fumble recovery.

This week the af2 office awarded Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto with the SFC af2 Coach of the Year award. Five of Memphis' players were also recognized by the league's All-af2 teams, including Khreem Smith, Dahnel Singfield, Terrell Adams, Kevin Prentiss, and Joseph Crear.

Rio Grande Valley defeated the Quad City Steamwheelers 56-38 in the first round of the playoffs, and then upset the West Division Champion Tulsa Talons 65-42 last Saturday night. The Dorados feature four players who were selected to the All-af2 teams.

"Rio Grande Valley is a very good football team," said Barto. "They are playing their best football at the best time of the year. I think if we stick to our game plan, we'll be all right."

The Xplorers are 2005 Mid West Division Champions. Game time Friday night is scheduled for 7:30pm. All Xplorers games can be heard on SportsRadio WMC, The Mighty 790 AM. Single game tickets are on sale now for as low as $9, and can be purchased by calling 662-342-1755, visiting the DeSoto Civic Center box office, or by logging onto www.TicketMaster.com.
