Émile Guité Wins Rookie of the Year Award

April 11, 2024 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Boucherville, QC - The QMJHL is proud to announce that Émile Guité of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens is the Rookie of the Year for 2023-2024.

Also named Offensive Rookie of the Year on Tuesday (Michel-Bergeron Trophy), Guité beats out Xavier Villeneuve of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, who was named Defensive Rookie of the Year (Raymond-Lagacé Trophy) yesterday.

Drafted just after Caleb Desnoyers last June, Guité finished second in the league among rookies with 25 goals and 57 points in 61 games. His 11 power-play goals also earned him second place among first-year players. At just 16 years of age, he finished third in scoring for the promising Saguenéens.

For his part, Villeneuve dominated all first-year defensemen with 8 goals (tied with Alex Huang), 35 assists and 43 points and this despite playing only 54 of 68 games. All positions combined, he finished third among rookies with 35 assists and 18 power-play assists (tied with Caleb Desnoyers). The seventh pick in the most recent draft also averaged 0.80 points per game. Only four rookies did better.
