ALLEN, TX- A win is a win, no matter how small.
The Allen Wranglers pulled off a close one Saturday when the team travelled to Amarillo to take on the Amarillo Venom. In a back-and-forth battle, the Wranglers proved victorious, walking away with a 52-51 lead over their division foe. The Wranglers looked to have the game in the bag with an 11 point lead at 2:13 left in the game. The Venom scored on an X'Zavier Bloodsaw touchdown pass to DuVaughn Flagler, recovered the onside kick and scored again. The Venom decided to go for two, but fumbled the snap; Wrangler defensive back Frankie Solomon picked up the loose football and ran it back for two points, giving the Wranglers a one point lead with: 27 left in the game.
Wrangler quarterback Kewan Dewberry threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Allen police officer and place kicker Garrett Courtney kicked three field goals, seating him at first place in the league. The Wranglers will play for first place in the Lonestar Division when they host the West Texas Roughnecks on Friday, Apr. 8, 2011. Kickoff is set for 7:35 p.m. at Allen Event Center.
