Orlando Predators News Release

ORLANDO - The Orlando Predators added depth at wide receiver over the weekend as the team announced the signing of Burl Toler (6'2, 200, California-Berkeley) for the 2012 season.

Toler played in nine games as a rookie in 2011 with the San Jose SaberCats, where he averaged 11.2 yards per catch on 46 receptions for 516 yards and four touchdowns.

Already looking to make an immediate impact once camp opens in February, he joins T.T. Toliver and Dwayne Eley, Jr. at wide receiver on the Preds preseason roster alongside rookies Taurian Washington, Greg Ligon and Orlando-native Maurice Price.

"I was open to all opportunities after last season ended but Orlando really expressed interest in me as a player, and that's the thing I wanted to hear," Toler said."I always approach things in a professional manner, and I just felt like I had to take advantage of the invitation."

After finishing with 69 receptions for 873 yards and four touchdowns as a walk-on at Cal, Toler was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL's Oakland Raiders in 2006. He spent the ensuing offseasons with the Washington Redskins in 2007 and 2008, in between a stint with the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe (2007).

Toler stormed onto the Arena Football League scene in 2010 when he came off the bench to haul in a season-long reception of 47 yards in his first AFL game against Iowa (April 1). He then went on to make eight-straight starts for the SaberCats before an ankle injury cut his season short.

"They put the ball in my hands and I made the most of it," Toler said of his debut.

And that's precisely what he's looking to do once he arrives in Orlando.

Toler went on to catch 12 passes for 99 yards against Tulsa on April 16 and record eight receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown against Pittsburgh on May 4. He also reached the end zone against Utah (May 21) and in his last game of the season against Dallas (June 4).
