AUGUST 23rd WORCESTER (27-22)/(63-57) at SYRACUSE (25-24)/(63-61) 1:05 pm

Worcester Red Sox LHP Raymond Burgos (3-6, 5.54) vs. Syracuse Mets RHP Xzavion Curry (3-0, 4.15)

Low Five - The Worcester Red Sox will try to snap out of their offensive doldrums and avoid dropping 5 of 6 games in a series for the first time since the 2nd half started (losing 5 of 6 vs. Toledo from June 23-28) when they play the finale of their 6-game set against the Syracuse Mets this afternoon at 1:05 pm at NBT Bank Stadium in Central, NY. The WooSox have lost 3 in a row the past three nights by scores of 5-0, 4-3, and 3-0 and they have dropped 4 of the first 5 here in Syracuse (their other loss came in the series-opener on Tuesday, 5-1 while their lone win was a 9-7 victory on Wednesday night). The stats in these 5 games tell the story. In the series thus far, Worcester batters are hitting .163 (25-for-153) with 1 HR and 13 runs scored (9 in one game including 6 in one inning on Wednesday). WooSox pitchers are 1-4 with a 4.97 ERA (23 ER in 41.2 IP) as the Mets have out-scored the Sox, 24-13. Today's series and roadtrip finale can be heard back in New England on NASH 98.9 FM and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.

Lost Series - No matter the outcome today, the WooSox have lost back-to-back series for only the second time all year. Down 4 games to 1 here in Syracuse with the finale on tap for this afternoon, the Sox also dropped 4 of 6 vs. Buffalo in their last series from August 11-16. Their only other consecutive series losses came back in May when they lost 4 of 6 at Buffalo from May 12-17 and then were swept in an abbreviated 5-game series at home vs. Rochester from May 19-23. Worcester needs a win today to avoid losing 5 games in a series for the fourth time this year...they went 1-5 at Nashville from April 14-19, 0-5 vs. Rochester from May 19-23, and 1-5 vs. Toledo from June 23-28. From June 30 - August 9 Worcester won five consecutive 6-game series. Worcester is now 11-9-2 in their 22 series thus far...11 wins, 9 losses, and 2 splits.

The Road Home - The WooSox - winners of 13 of their last 19 home games - hope their return to Polar Park on Tuesday can right their ship. After their customary Monday offday tomorrow, the WooSox will begin their penultimate homestand of the season on Tuesday evening at 6:05 pm at Polar Park when they host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-Yankees) in the first of six critical games. The Sox and RailRiders will play four night games from Tuesday - Friday (all at 6:05 pm) and then face each other over the weekend for games on Saturday at 4:05 pm and Sunday at 1:05 pm. That will leave the WooSox with just one remaining homestand from September 15-20 when the end the regular season with 6-games vs. the Durham Bulls. After today, Worcester will have 24 games remaining and those are balanced evenly with 12 home and 12 road games left. On the year, Worcester is 34-27 at home compared to 29-30 on the road.

Story and IKF Finish Their Week/Weekend in Syracuse Today - Boston Red Sox INF Trevor Story was 1-for-4 as the WooSox shortstop last night and is now 4-for-17 in 5 rehab games with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Story has been joined in Syracuse by fellow rehabbing Red Sox INF Isiah Kiner- Falefa who went 0-for-3 with a walk last night as the second baseman. He is 1-for-9 in his 3 rehab games.

Kiner-Falefa, who will leadoff today and play shortstop, has been on Boston's injured list since June 19 with left forearm inflammation that was ultimately diagnosed as a stress reaction in his left ulna bone. Story, who will bat second this afternoon as the DH, has been on the Red Sox injured list since May 15 with a sports hernia that eventually required surgery.
