Worcester Red Sox News Release

AUGUST 14th BUFFALO (22-20)/(57-60) at WORCESTER (26-15)/(62-50) 6:45 pm

Buffalo Bisons RHP John Klein (2-4, 5.94) vs. Worcester Red Sox RHP Gage Ziehl (1-0, 0.00)

Reaching For New Heights - The Worcester Red Sox - now 62-50 overall on the year - have equaled their season-high of 12 games over .500 for the second time this season. Even more importantly, the WooSox are a 2nd half-best 11-games over .500 (26-15) and thus own the second best 2nd half record in the entire International League behind only Indianapolis (27-15). Tonight, in game four of their 6-game series against the Buffalo Bisons (AAA-Toronto), the WooSox will try to go 13-games above for the first time since September 6, 2023 when they were 73-60. First pitch tonight is at 6:45 pm which is the last such weeknight start time of the season here at Polar Park. When the WooSox return to Polar Park for their penultimate homestand of the season from August 25-30, as well as their final home games this year from September 15-20, all weeknight start times will revert to 6:05 pm (in deference to kids being back in school). Tonight's game is on tape delay on NESN+ but can be heard live on NASH 98.9 FM.

Back on Track - After consecutive losses this past Sunday in their series-finale vs. Lehigh Valley, 7-6 and Tuesday night in the series-opener vs. Buffalo, 9-6 - the first time that Worcester had dropped back-to-back games since July 17 & 19 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre - the WooSox have since won two games in a row...a 2-1 victory over the Bisons on Wednesday and a 10-3 rout last night to take a 2 games to 1 lead in the series. Worcester has won 6 of their last 8 games, 10 of their last 13 overall, 14 of their last 17 home games, has gone 17-4 since July 22, and they are 26-9 since June 28.

The Race Is On - Worcester has rebounded quite nicely since an 0-5 start to the 2nd half and their current 26-15 record in the 2nd half has put the WooSox (now the IL East leader) alone in 2nd-place overall in the 20-team International League and just a 1/2 game behind Indianapolis (the IL West leader). The best second half record among all 20-teams in the league earns the one playoff spot that comes with that and a date with 1st half champ Memphis in a best 2 out of 3 series from September 22-24 in Tennessee. The winner of that series goes to Las Vegas to take on the Pacific Coast League champion in a one-game Triple-A National Championship Game on September 26. Worcester has 34 games remaining (16 home & 18 away).

The probable pitching match-ups for the remainder of the series vs. Buffalo at Polar Park this week and weekend:

Sat. 4:05 pm NESN RHP CJ Van Eyk (5-3, 3.63) vs. RHP Blake Wehunt (1-1, 3.60)

Sun. 1:05 pm NESN+ RHP Grant Rogers (3-9, 5.88) vs. RHP John Holobetz (1-1, 2.77)
