New York Dragons News Release

The Dragons have announced that Juston Wood will start at quarterback when they host the Columbus Destroyers this Friday night at the Nassau Coliseum. The team has also signed QB Nick Browder to the roster. Aaron Garcia is out for an indefinite amount of time with a fractured tibia.

Wood, a rookie out of Portland State, will be the first quarterback other than Garcia to start a game for the Dragons since May 3, 2003. Wood has also seen playing time as a wide receiver, defensive back, holder for field goals and extra points, and has been a member of the kickoff coverage unit this season. Wood completed eight of 12 passes attempted and threw for 70 yards and a touchdown when he subbed in for Garcia in the second half of this past Sunday's victory over Orlando.

"This is what I'm here to do. The number one guy goes down and I'm ready to step in," said Wood. "Friday is an important game for us and nothing has changed in what we're trying to accomplish."

Browder, formally on the Grand Rapids Rampage and the Philadelphia Soul, will serve as Wood's back up. Browder also played for the Buffalo Destroyers in 2000.

"Nick is an arena experienced quarterback who has enjoyed success in the league and is familiar with our system and [offensive coordinator] Coach Kimbrough," said Dragons head coach Weylan Harding.

Kickoff for this week's game against the Columbus Destroyers is at 7:00 PM at the Nassau Coliseum. Great seats are still available and fans should call 1-866-AFL-TIXX for more information.
