Mohegan Wolves News Release

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK. (April 19th, 2002)- The Mohegan Wolves ventured away from home for the first time in franchise history Friday night and left town with their first road win, and a two game winning streak. Game MVP Cable Davis provided the spark for the pack as he went 22 of 38 for 357 yards and 5 touchdowns while rushing for another touchdown. Davis's near flawless effort guided the Wolves to a 54-45 victory and sole possession of 2nd place in the Northeast Division.

The first half saw both teams go blow for blow, answering each score with one of their own. Rochester jumped out early with a Matt D'Orazio 1 yard TD plunge. The Wolves answered on the next possession with a Cable Davis rushing touchdown. D'Orazio then connected with Ironman of the Game Aaron Fix from 25 yards out to put the Brigade ahead 13-6. Cable struck again this time connecting with Brandon Burnside for a touchdown to round out the scoring for the first quarter with the game knotted at 13-13.

The second quarter featured a flurry of action. Former Brigade kicker and current Wolves kicker Charles Eger added a 19-yard field goal giving the Wolves their first lead. Rochester answered when Darryl Moore hauled in a D' Orazio pass for a touchdown. Brandon Burnside would respond with his second touchdown reception this time from 38 yards out to keep pace. Fix added a 14 yard run for a touchdown before Brandon Burnside's twin brother Brent got into the mix with a 7 yard touchdown reception making the score 28-23 in favor of the Wolves. D'Orazio ran for another touchdown, which left only: 34 seconds on the clock. Then Davis orchestrated a 6-play drive; with no timeouts remaining, resulting in another touchdown to Brent Burnside as time expired to give the Wolves a 35-31 lead going into the second half with the ball to start the half.

The pace slowed in the third quarter with Rochester capitalizing on a Mohegan fumble to start the half giving them a 37-35 lead, it would be the last lead of the game for the Brigade however. Davis found Brent Burnside again this time from 45 yards out and Eger added a 19 yard field goal to give the Wolves the lead 45-37 after 3 periods.

A quiet 4th quarter exploded with action when Fix returned a missed field goal 55 yards and D'Orazio connected with Martino Theus on the 2 point conversion to knot the game at 45. Eger added a 20-yard field goal with: 58 seconds remaining. Wolves Defensive Specialist Heron O'Neal forced a fumble on the Brigade's next possession sealing the deal for the Wolves. Brent Burnside added a tricky passing touchdown to Mondez Haire for the final score of the game giving the Wolves the victory.

Quarterback Matt D'Orazio passed for 139 yards while completing 17 of 28 passes. He passed for 2 touchdowns while rushing for 2 more. Aaron Fix recorded a touchdown rushing, receiving and returning as well as four tackles. ADT Defensive Player of the Game Ahmad Whitehead recorded 2 tackles and ½ a sack to go with 2 hurries.

Although QB Cable Davis earned Game MVP honors, the real Player of the Game was Ironman Brent Burnside. Burnside caught 9 passes for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns. He threw another touchdown and recorded 4 tackles. His twin brother Brandon played only the first half and had 3 receptions for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensive Specialist Carlos McLaurin truly exemplified what ADT stands for with his efforts. McLaurin added 10 tackles, 3 for a loss, recovered a fumble and defended 5 passes.
