The battle of 9-1's came down to one word. Execution. Ben Bennett's offense made the most of their opportunities scoring on 9 of 11 drives, while the Firecats turned the ball over on downs 4 times losing to Manchester 52-29.
Offensive player of the game Jake Eaton finished the game 27 of 35 for 263 yards with 5 TD's and no interceptions. The Wolves defensive line kept QB Chris Wallace on the move all night as the ¬ËCats signal caller was under constant pressure. The Firecats opened on offense and promptly went 3 and out. Manchester move the ball down filed to take the early lead 7-0. The Firecats answered on Cainon Lamb's 1st of 2 TD receptions to come within 1. The Wolves then went on to score 20 unanswered points as Eaton found McKelvey, Skipper and Bacote on scoring strikes. The Firecats pulled within 14 at the half as FB Steve Gorrie ran in 1 of his 2 TD's from 1 yard out to close out the half.
Things kept going Manchester's way as the Wolves opened up the 2nd half scoring 18 straight as Eaton found Skipper, Bacote and Perry to take a commanding 46-13 lead. The Firecats made a run at it late scoring twice in the 4th quarter and converting 2 straight 2 point conversions on QB keepers. Jake Eaton put a stop to the rally though running in the games final score from 5 yards out to close it out.
6,034 fans were on hand to watch the Firecats suffer their biggest defeat in franchise history.
Iron Man of the game J.J. McKelvey finished the night with 6 receptions for 69 yards and a TD, but Jamall Perry led the Wolves with 11 catches for 115 yards and a score. The key stat of the game is that the ¬ËCats finished 2 of 8 on 3rd downs while Manchester was 5 of 6. William Haith completed the sweep of game awards collecting the ADT Defensive player of the game nod to go along with his 4 tackles and 4 pass breakups.
The Wolves improved to 10-1 and took control of 1st place in the conference while the ¬ËCats dropped to 9-2.
