Wolves Win 4 of Final 5, Anticipating 2016
June 15, 2015 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Billings Wolves News Release
When faced with the seemingly impossible task of defeating a 10-3 Danger team that ranked 2nd in the IFL in 2015- 'Dak' Britt's record setting day, along with standout performances from his teammates, was enough to pull off the biggest upset of the season-a 60-50 victory in the Wolves' season finale. Milestones were set and records were broken as Billings' first-year franchise finished off the year winning four of their final five games. What's next? Bring on 2016.
Recap of the Wolves' 60-50 victory over the Danger:
'Dak' Britt completed 73.1% of his passes for 268 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs (145.5 passer rating).
Julian Laing averaged 4.8 Y/A and rushed for 3 TDs- 12 TDs in the final five games of 2015.
Regginald Lewis Jr. became first player in Wolves history to eclipse 1,000 all-purpose yards.
Austin Coleman set season-high marks, catching five passes for 85 yards and 2 TDs.
Michael Green recorded 9 tackles- ending 2015 ranked No. 1 in the IFL with 114 for the year.
The Wolves didn't close out the 2015 season winning four of their final five games on the heels of any one player alone. It has been a complete team effort, grinding out games on a week-by-week basis to finish strong. What ended with a 60-50 victory over the Danger really begin with a 61-64 overtime loss to the Danger on May 2nd. That game marked the beginning of the Wolves' competitive streak. They lost by three-points, but it took an overtime period for one of the IFL's elite teams to knock off Billings' first-year franchise. Since that point in time, no team has managed to beat the Wolves by more than five-points. No IFL team has been more competitive.
Learning under 2015 IFL Hall of Fame inductee Chris Dixon- Britt has developed into one of the premier quarterbacks in the league. He's smart, he's productive, he's patient, he's mobile and he puts the ball in the end zone. Despite only recently becoming the Wolves' full-stime starter, he finished the 2015 season ranked 4th in the IFL with 33 touchdown passes. He's rushed for eight touchdowns- drawing comparisons to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
From an all-purpose production standpoint, no player in the IFL this season has been more versatile than Regginald Lewis Jr. He's the only player in the league to produce 200+ yards of offense passing, rushing, receiving and kick returning. Lewis Jr. became the first player in Wolves' franchise history to eclipse 1,000 all-purpose yards (1,078)- ranking 5th in the IFL by averaging 98.0 all-purpose yards per-game. Perhaps more impressive is the fact that Lewis Jr. averaged a mind-numbing 125.4 all-purpose yards per-game over the final five games of the year. He saved his best for last, recording a career-high 164 yards in the Wolves' season finale.
Stat: Lewis Jr. has produced a touchdown during ten of the Wolves' last eleven games.
On defense, the Wolves have boasted one of the most dominant secondaries in the IFL. Michael Green finished the 2015 season ranked No. 1 in both tackles and interceptions. Former New York Giants safety Travonti Johnson wasn't far behind in the interception category-ranking 3rd in the IFL picks this season. Passing vs. the Wolves has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks, one of the many reasons the team finished the 2015 season so strong.
As the 2016 season approaches- hopes are high in Billings. The Wolves won four of their final five games, went 3-0 in their last three home games and went 3-0 in their last three games vs. winning teams (Fever, Danger). The development of their franchise quartrback, 'Dak' Britt, has resulted in touchdowns aplenty being scored through the air (33) and on the ground (8). Running back Julian Laing rushed for 12 touchdowns in the team's final five games. Regginald Lewis Jr. has proven he can produce passing, rushing, receiving and returning. Michael Green and Travonti Johnson recorded 12 interceptions combined- the most of any DB-duo in the IFL.
If the Wolves could be this good during their first season, just imagine what's to come in 2016.
