Mohegan Wolves News Release

NEW LONDON, C.T. (May 9th, 2002)- Friday night when the Wolves host the Rochester Brigade, any child under the age of 12 accompanied by a paid adult will get in free. The game will again feature an opportunity for Wolves fans to enter and win a Harley Davidson motorcycle from New London County Motorcycles as well as a hot tub courtesy of Treats Spa of Uncasville.

THE SERIES

The Wolves defeated Rochester on April 19th by the score of 54-45. Cable Davis was named Game MVP after posting a career high 357 yards and 5 touchdowns while rushing for another touchdown. Wolves' Defensive specialist Carlos McLaurin was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game after recording 10 tackles, and breaking up 5 passes. WR/DB Brent Burnside had his best game of the year when he recorded 9 receptions for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass. He was named Built Ford Tough Player of the game by the coaches for his play. His twin brother Brandon had 3 receptions for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns despite only playing the first half due to injury. Since defeating Rochester, Mohegan has lost to New Haven, Norfolk, and Albany while Rochester defeated Albany, lost to New Haven and defeated Wilkes-Barre Scranton. This is the second of three meetings with the Brigade. The teams will meet for the final time on July 19th at the Mohegan Sun Arena. That will be the last home game of the season for the Wolves barring any home playoff games. Head Coach Gary Porter added this about Friday night's game:

"They are going through the same things we are, trying to find the right personnel at the right spots. We've upgraded and so have they since we played them the first time. It should be an extremely competitive game, much like the first time we played them."

INJURY REPORT

WR/LB Brian Shubin has been placed on short-term injured reserve after injuring his knee in the loss to Norfolk. OL/DL Chris Smith left the game vs. Albany with a knee injury but will likely play against Rochester. OL/DL Dan Porter injured his knee as well versus Albany when he was illegally chop blocked. He returned to the game and will play Friday night. DS Heron O'Neal left the game with a concussion. It is the second concussion he has suffered in two weeks. He is probable to start Friday night vs. Rochester.

ROSTER REPORT

The Wolves acquired Tyree Allison in the franchise's first trade. Mohegan sent future considerations to Tennessee Valley for the 6'3, 315lb lineman out of Hofstra. Allison spent the 2001 season with the Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League before joining Tennessee Valley for the 2002 campaign. WR/LB Brian Shubin was placed on short-term injured reserve clearing a roster spot for Tyree on the 21-man roster.

Head Coach Gary Porter had this to say about Tyree, "Tyree is a guy that we pinpointed this winter and we recruited him quite heavily. He opted to go to Huntsville to play for the Vipers but contacted us late last week about returning closer to home. He adds depth and experience to our line, which is extremely beaten up right now. We are very pleased to have him."

NEXT WEEK'S OPPONENT: New Haven Ninjas (2-3) 5/24/02

The Wolves will travel to New Haven for the second time this season. The Wolves were defeated by the Ninjas on April 27th by the score 51-38 before a crowd of 3,626 rowdy Ninja fans. Anthony Comer was named Game MVP. He had a touchdown rushing and receiving on the night. New Haven's Kerry Taylor was named Ironman of the Game. He rushed for 42 yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 carries. Ryan Bland was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game. He had an interception and 2 passes broken up to go with 6 ½ tackles. The loss gave the Ninjas their first win in franchise history and awarded New Haven with the Constitution Cup, a traveling trophy awarded to the winner of each intra-state game. It will be the second of three meetings this season. New Haven will travel to the den the following weekend to round out the battle for bragging rights in Connecticut.
