Mohegan Wolves News Release

NEW LONDON, Conn. (May 1, 2003) – The Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) face their third road test of the 2003 season when they travel to Rochester, NY this Saturday to take on the Rochester Brigade in a Northeast Division battle. The Wolves (3-1) are looking for their fourth win of 2003, which would establish a single-season franchise high. Mohegan is also out to extend Rochester's four-game losing streak and keep its lead in the division. Saturday's game will kick off at 1:00 p.m. at Blue Cross Arena.

Rochester (0-4) comes into Saturday's contest in a bad mood after its most recent, 58-35, road loss at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. After entering the second quarter tied at 14-14, the Pioneer outscored the Brigade 23-6 over the next two quarters to take a comfortable lead and the eventual victory.

Wolves Game Four Recap – 4/26/03 – In last week's game at Greensboro, Mohegan almost made it four wins in a row, but the Prowlers held on for a 47-44 win. The Prowlers got off to a fast start with a game-opening 47-yard pass by quarterback Caleb Slover to Bobby Sippio, proving to be the only touchdown for either team in the first quarter. After another Greensboro touchdown, the Wolves finally got into the scoring column via a Zac Derr 30-yard field goal. Trailing 27-13 at the half and 33-19 at the end of three quarters, Mohegan finally got it going in the fourth quarter, scoring 25 points. The Prowlers, however, scored 14 points of their own, and snuck by despite the efforts of Wolves' WR/DB Anthony Comer. Comer broke out for four touchdowns on the night, including two long kickoff returns (56 and 58 yards) for scores in the fourth quarter. His 58-yard touchdown return stands as the longest recorded in the league this season.

This Saturday's matchup at a glance – Mohegan Wolves at Rochester Brigade Saturday's game between the Wolves and Brigade will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams. The series is currently tied at 2-2. Mohegan had trailed in the series 2-1 heading into the 2003 season, but evened things up with a 57-20 win against Rochester on April 5 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game was the season opener for both teams. Kazmell Minott (two touchdown receptions) paced the Wolves offense and Andre Weathers (two INTs, one returned for a touchdown) and Allistair Sebastien (two INTs, one returned for a touchdown) keyed the defense. This time out, however, Rochester has a new quarterback named Kevin Carty. Carty played in eight games for the Wolves in 2002 and started the team's final three contests. He threw for 840 yards on the season along with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His main target will be WR/DB Derek Baker. Baker ranks among the league leaders in scoring (9th – 52 pts) and all-purpose yards (4th – 172 ypg). Baker was the Brigade's lone bright spot against the Wolves on April 5 with two touchdown catches. Mohegan will be led again by its defense, which ranks fourth overall in the league, yielding just 201.5 yards per game. Offensively, the Wolves hope for more exploits from WR/DB Anthony Comer and steady play by QB Ryan Tracey.
