Billings Wolves News Release

With the 2016 IFL season quickly approaching, the Billings Wolves have made roster moves to secure their future moving forward. To that end, the team has resigned 2015 IFL Defensive Rookie of the Year: Michael Green. I recently ranked Green the No. 1 player on the Wolves roster in my last article, published in November. What is it that makes Green so valuable to the Billings' franchise? His game extends beyond the tackles, the interceptions and the accolades.

In 2015, there were few defensive players more dominant than Michael Green. He ranked 2nd in the IFL in both interceptions (7) and tackles (114). The combination of creating turnovers and producing tackle after tackle added an additional dimension to his game. It can be argued that no defensive player struck more fear into the hearts of opposing quarterbacks and receivers than Green. Although his seven interceptions ranked 2nd in the IFL- he could have picked off even more passes had quarterbacks not been afraid to throw in his direction.

Green didn't just intercept passes, he became a threat with his legs every time the ball was in his hands. On 5/16/15 vs. Axemen and 5/23/15 vs. Fever, Green produced 146 return yards after intercepting four passes during that two-game span.

At one point last season, the Wolves boasted the league's No. 1 pass-defense- holding opponents to only 136.9 passing yards per-game. Green was the defense's anchor, deflecting passes, creating turnovers, moving the ball in the opposite direction after picking it off and shutting down plays with his tackling ability. On-film, Green's playing style is reminiscent of former Ravens' safety Ed Reed- a hard-hitter who can make plays with the ball in his hands.

With Green returning for the 2016 season, the Wolves aim to improve upon a defensive unit that was one of the best against the pass last year. With a year of experience under his belt, the sky may be the limit for Green as he hopes to elevate his game to the next level.
