Wolves QB Dak Britt Re-Signs for 2016
September 10, 2015 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Billings Wolves News Release
After finishing the 2015 season on a high note, winning four of their final five games, the Billings Wolves have secured their future with the resigning of quarterback 'Dak' Britt- the second year quarterback who took the IFL by storm in his rookie season. Running back Julian Laing is back along with his college teammate wide receiver Robert Jones- yet another weapon to upgrade a Wolves passing attack that produced 33 touchdown passes under Britt in 2015 (4th in the IFL).
Confirmed 2016 Roster Thus Far:
The Wolves have added talent to the defensive side of the football by signing former USC defensive back Tevin Bryant. They've also added three new linebackers: Brad Davis, Matt Farris and Christopher Townsend to complement a secondary that excelled at stopping the pass in 2015. On the offensive side of the ball, the Wolves have paid particular attention to continuity by signing Robert Jones- a college teammate of Julian Laing's from the University of Delaware. They've also signed South Carolina State University wide receiver Dennis Rowe- another wide receiver with FCS experience and another weapon to complement quarterback 'Dak' Britt.
At USC, Tevin Bryant played an important role in the Trojan's secondary under Pete Carroll (now head coach of the Seattle Seahawks). Via www.usctrojans.com:
"2009: Bryant was a key backup cornerback, often playing in extra defensive back situations, and special teamer as a sophomore in 2009. Overall in 2009 while appearing in all 13 games, he had 22 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss (with 0.5 sack), plus 3 deflections. He had 3 tackles (with 0.5 sack) against San Jose State, 2 tackles at Washington, 4 tackles (1 for a loss) and a deflection against Washington State and 2 tackles at California. He added 2 tackles and a deflection at Notre Dame, a stop against Oregon State, 3 tackles at Arizona State, 1 against UCLA and 2 against Arizona. He had 2 tackles and a deflection against Boston College."
At the University of Delaware, Robert Jones was a human highlight reel- making the kind of plays you'd expect to see in a video game. Via www.bluehens.com:
"At Delaware: Fifth-year senior and a four-year letterwinner - returns to the lineup after missing all but two games due to an injury in 2012 - always capable of making the big play as a receiver, punt returner, or on a reverse - dynamic player who has a great ability to make defenders miss and finds ways to get open - shifty runner with great hands - one of team's most experienced players with 36 career games played and 12 starts - has caught 82 career passes for 1,079 yards (13.1 avg.) and eight touchdowns - has returned 43 career punts for 301 yards (7.0 avg.) - needs 18 catches to become only the 15th player in UD history to reach the 100-reception mark and his 1,079 receiving yards ranks No. 23 - ranks No. 10 all-time at Delaware for career punt returns (43) and punt return yardage (301) - his 43 career punt returns ranks No. 5 among active NCAA FCS players - ranks No. 2 among active UD players with 1,419 all-purpose yards - had a big Blue-White spring game as he caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Sasek and threw a 70-yard touchdown to Mike Milburn."
Dennis Rowe was another playmaker in college- routinely making the extraordinary look ordinary. At 6'3, 225 lbs. - Rowe is surprisingly quick and agile. His skill-set is well suited for the tight confines of the Indoor Football League. He's tall enough to bring big passes in, quick enough to evade defenders, but also strong enough to run them over when necessary.
There may be more signings yet to come. Although it's early in the IFL's offseason, it is clear that the Wolves have made great strides to improve their roster by retaining the players that led them to success in 2015 and by signing playmakers with valuable experience. Stay tuned.
