Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 6, 2004) - Manchester Wolves lineman Abdallah Wiggins is in Florida this week, but vacation is the furthest thing from his mind. The two-year af2 veteran is spending his time in the sunshine state auditioning for the NFL at workouts for the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars.
This past Sunday Wiggins was one of just 10 players invited to Miami to work out for the Dolphins at the team's training facility. Miami's scouts and personnel executives were on hand testing the Grand Valley State alum in the 40-yard dash, bench press and short shuttle. Wiggins also got measurements taken for vertical jump and reach and height and weight. The team also had him do some long snapping drills. At the present time Wiggins is awaiting his results from the workout.
"I thought I did well on Sunday," Wiggins said. "I won't know officially what happens until I get the results, so we'll just have to wait and see. Right now I'm just working out and preparing for Saturday."
This Saturday Wiggins also has a workout scheduled with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's likely many of the same drills and tests he performed in Miami will be duplicated in Jacksonville as well.
Wiggins, at 6-4, 290 pounds, is a physical player who has exceptional speed for his size. He used that size and speed to his advantage for the Wolves in Friday night's 51-34 home win against Albany, tallying two sacks. Eight hours later he was on his way to Florida.
"This is a great opportunity for Abdallah and we wish him the best," commented Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards. "He's a heckuva football player and he deserves this shot."
In two games played with Manchester this year, Wiggins has accumulated 4.5 total tackles, two sacks, one interception and one forced fumble. He began the year in camp with the AFL's Orlando Predators.
