Week 6 Friday Night Matchup

May 6, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS (4-1) AT PEORIA PIRATES (2-3)
FRIDAY, MAY 7, 2004 - PEORIA CIVIC CENTER (9,772) 8:00 P.M. ET

The Quad City Steamwheelers and Peoria Pirates enter this Week 6 match up playing for the Ruler of the River trophy. Both teams lost in week in Week 4, but bounced back with victories last week. Now both squads are looking to start a winning streak. Last week the Steamwheelers' defense stepped it up giving up only 26 points to a Green Bay Blizzard offense that entered the game averaging 53 points a game. The defense was led by ADT Defensive Player of the Week defensive specialist MATT FORBES. Forbes recorded two interceptions, forced a fumble and had a game-high eight tackles last week. On the season Forbes leads the af2 in interceptions and forced fumbles. The Steamwheelers aren't all defense though, TIM DODGE leads the af2 in reception yards with 543 while JEFF HEWITT is tied for fifth in the af2 in scoring, with 66 points. The Pirates offense will need to either find a way to match the points these two playmakers can put up, or stop them all together. Stopping them will be the job of the Pirates' defense led by FRANK WEST, who leads the team in tackles and interceptions. West, a former Illinois State Redbird and af2 veteran at the age of 32, leads a Pirates defense that has given up an average of 23 points in Pirates' victories, but has given up 42.3 points in Pirates' losses. Despite the Streamwheelers' better record the old adage is you throw out the records in rivalry games, so look for this game to be close. The Pirates travel to the Quad Cities on July 2 to finish the season series.
