Manchester Wolves News Release
The Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's professional arenafootball2 team, are bringing back a familiar face to bolster their receiving core as they were assigned four-year veteran WR Mel Long yesterday.
Long (6'2, 192), comes back to the Wolves after playing three seasons away from Manchester with stints in Bakersfield (2005) and Rio Grande (2006, 2007) where he amassed a total of 1,537 receiving yards for 28 touchdowns on just 133 receptions. The Toledo, OH native started his af2 career with the Wolves in Mohegan (2003) and then played one season in Manchester (2004) where he collected a total of 1,558 receiving yards, 34 touchdowns and 105 receptions. Long earned ALL-af2 Second Team honors in the American Conference at the Offensive Specialist position in 2003 with the Wolves.
At the University of Toledo, Long finished his career as the school's all-time leader in receptions (175), yards receiving (2,188) and touchdown receptions (21) while also collecting at least one pass in every game played (46 straight games).
" When you have a chance to add a player with Mel's experience and talent, it can only help your club," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. " He should help us pretty quickly, too."
The Wolves (7-6) will face the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers (13-0) this Friday for the 18 th all-time match up between the clubs. The Pioneers hold the all-time lead, 9-8, and have beaten the Wolves twice this season back on May 4 (59-42) and March 31 (50-36), both contests took place in Wilkes-Barre. Manchester has won five of their six home games on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season.
