Mohegan Wolves News Release
NEW LONDON, Conn. (December 14th, 2002) â Over 80 athletes dressed to impress Mohegan Wolves Head Coach Mark Stoute tonight as the Wolves held their first open tryout at the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford. Many of the participants were from the Connecticut area.
Coach Stoute and his staff put the potential players through a series of drills and exercises, including the short shuttle, 40-yard dash, broad jump and one-on-ones.
Stoute felt the event was a great first step in preparation for the Wolves upcoming 2003 season.
"I was really excited about the turnout," Stoute said. "There were a few guys out there that were in over their head, but that's expected. But we also had a bunch of good football players in the mix that may help us down the road."
A number of interested spectators were also at the tryout, including new Wolves team members Kazmell Minott and Allistair Sebastian. Last year's arenafootball2 "Built Ford Tough Man of the Year" Award winner, Jeff Cogell, also attended the event. Cogell, who led the Wolves in sacks last season, was recently signed by the New Jersey Gladiators of the Arena Football League.
All the participants who came out got a fair chance at making an impression. Coach Stoute will review the videotape of the tryout and contact the players he wants to invite to the Wolves' 2003 training camp.
The Wolves are also looking into scheduling another tryout at the Sportsplex sometime in late February.
Catch the Wolves second season of hard-hitting action at the Mohegan Sun Arena, beginning in April. For information on holiday season ticket specials, please contact the Mohegan Wolves office at 860.443.1900 or visit them on the web at www.moheganwolves.com.
