Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
The Wolf Pack opened their 2014-15 season Sunday in Syracuse and, after trailing 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, came away with a 4-3 overtime win over the Crunch. Oscar Lindberg scored two goals, including the game-winner in three-on-three overtime, and Chris Mueller had a goal and an assist. Cedrick Desjardins, a former Crunch, made 29 saves to defeat his old team.

This week:
The Wolf Pack kicks off the home portion of their 2014-15 campaign with a pair of games at the newly-renovated XL Center this weekend. The Portland Pirates visit for the Wolf Pack's home opener on Saturday night, a 7:00 PM faceoff, and the Wolf Pack host the Hershey Bears on Sunday at 3:00.
Saturday, October 18 vs. the Portland Pirates at the XL Center, 7:00 PM
- This is the first chance for Wolf Pack fans to check out the new renovations at the XL Center. The changes include a brand-new center-hung scoreboard and ribbon boards, loge boxes and in-arena fan club, plus a fully-redone concourse, featuring enticing new concession stands.
- There will be a special pregame block party on Trumbull St. from 4:00-6:00 PM. Fans can enjoy music, food, a dunk tank, face-painting and all kinds of other fun.
- The first 5,000 fans receive into this game receive a free Wolf Pack magnetic schedule, courtesy of Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
- "Superfan" Cameron Hughes will return to entertain the XL Center crowd, and the UConn Cheer Team will be signing autographs in the atrium during the first intermission.
- Head Coach Ray Edwards' Pirates began their season with a 3-2 home win over the Providence Bruins at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland Saturday. Last year Portland finished 24-39-3-10 for 61 points, fifth in the Atlantic Division and 15th in the Eastern Conference.
- Lucas Lessio, who had 29-25-54 in 69 games last season, is the Pirates' leading returning scorer. He lit the lamp against Providence on Saturday, as did fellow returnees Darian Dziurzynski and Brendan Shinnimin, whose third-period power-play goal was the game-winner.
- This is the first of four games on the season between the Wolf Pack and Portland, and the Pirates' first of two visits to Hartford. The two clubs met six times last season, with the Wolf Pack going 4-2-0-0, 2-1-0-0 at home.

Sunday, October 19 vs. the Hershey Bears at the XL Center, 3:00 PM
- The Wolf Pack's "Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack" will again be featured on Sundays this year, starting with this game, and has been expanded to Wednesday and Thursday home games as well. The Family Value Pack features two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for only $35.
- This is the first game of a four-game season series with Hershey for the Wolf Pack, who swept a pair of games between the two teams last year. The Pack beat the Bears 4-3 on October 26 in Hershey and 2-1 in a shootout February 28 at the XL Center.
- New head coach Troy Mann's Bears are starting their season with five straight road games. The first was Saturday night in Norfolk, with the Admirals winning by a score of 5-4, and the two clubs rematch tonight. Last year, under Mike Haviland, Hershey finished 39-27-5-5 for 88 points, missing the playoffs by two points in the Eastern Conference.
- Former Wolf Pack mainstays Kris Newbury and Dane Byers combined for five points for Hershey in their Saturday opener, with Newbury notching a goal and two assists and Byers, the Bear captain, a goal and an assist.

Once again this season, every Friday night Wolf Pack home game will feature $1 hot dogs and $2 beers, through the start of the second period. The first Friday-night home game is October 24, when the Wolf Pack host the Hershey Bears in a 7:00 PM game.
Wolf Pack "Winning Wednesdays" are back for the 2014-15 season. At all Wednesday night home games, if the Wolf Pack win, each fan receives a free ticket to the Pack's next home game (some restrictions apply). The Wolf Pack's first Wednesday home date is November 5, when the Albany Devils invade the XL Center for a special 11:00 AM game.
