Connecticut Whale News Release

The Wolf Pack came up with a huge performance this past weekend, sweeping three Atlantic Division games and moving back into second place in the division, and outscoring their opposition by a combined margin of 10-3 in the process. The Pack registered their fifth shutout of the season Friday night against Worcester, as they defeated the Sharks by a final score of 3-0. The Wolf Pack matched a season best by allowing only 15 shots on goal in that game. Saturday night produced a 3-2 home win over the arch-rival Providence Bruins, and the Pack took the back end of a home-and-home set with the P-Bruins as well, winning by a 4-1 score on Sunday. Al Montoya has now won 11 of his last 13 decisions since starting the season 2-9-0, and he posted his third shutout of the season Friday. Brad Isbister had the game-winning goals Friday and Saturday and totaled 3-1-4 in the three games. Yale University product Alex Westlund earned the win in net on Sunday, in his first appearance in a Wolf Pack uniform.

The Wolf Pack face another three-game weekend, starting this Friday in Lowell against the Devils (7:05). The club returns home Saturday night to take on league-leading Norfolk (7:00), before heading to Bridgeport Sunday afternoon (3:00) for a GEICO Connecticut Cup battle against the Sound Tigers.

Friday, February 23rd at Lowell (Paul E. Tsongas Arena), 7:05 p.m.

The Devils are three games above .500, at 25-22-5-2 for 57 points, but that is only good for a tie for fifth place in the Atlantic Division, eight points behind the Wolf Pack.

Lowell has won back-to-back games and has at least a standings point in nine of its last 11 games (6-2-2-1).

Lowell has won three of the first four games of the season series with the Wolf Pack, but the Pack triumphed in the last meeting, a 4-3 verdict January 20th in Lowell.

The Devils' top goal and point-scorer is center Chris Minard, who has rolled up 22-11-33 in 40 games.

The Sound Tigers have enjoyed their recent success without the services of two of their top five scorers, Jeff Tambellini (22-22-44 in 40 GP) and Frans Nielsen (12-19-31 in 41 GP), who are on recall to the parent New York Islanders.
