
WNBA, American Heart Associationg 'Going Red'

NEW YORK, ( JUNE 18, 2009) - For the third consecutive year, the Women's National Basketball Association is joining forces with the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women to increase awareness of heart disease and encourage women to take action to reduce their personal risk. The WNBA's Go Red For Women Week will take place from Sunday, June 21 to Tuesday, June 30.
Throughout the week, WNBA teams will host in-arena nights to raise awareness of heart disease and encourage women to get involved in the movement. The teams will recognize local heart disease survivors and conduct auctions to benefit Go Red For Women, among other activities. In addition, players will take the Go Red Heart CheckUp and will sign up for the new Go Red BetterU program, which gives women the choice to achieve an improved state of well-being and heart health. One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease and heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women in the United States. Under the partnership, WNBA teams and players are encouraging fans to take the Go Red Heart CheckUp and sign up for Go Red BetterU, a new, free online program that will guide them through a total health makeover by highlighting small, simple choices they can take to reduce their risk of disease.
