Winnipeg ICE Issue Statement Regarding the Western Hockey League Confirmed January 8, 2020-2021 Regular Season Start Date
October 19, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Winnipeg Ice News Release
The Winnipeg ICE are thankful and humbled by the volume of inquiries and questions regarding the WHL return to play confirmed start date. We are appreciative of the interest in our approach to spectators and desire to understand the number of fans that will be permissible at ICE home games.
The Winnipeg ICE will follow the guidelines of local health authorities as we prepare for our return to play. Fans will be permitted to watch games based on current public health orders for facilities in Winnipeg and Manitoba; we understand the orders are fluid and may change as the season progresses.
There is a lot of exciting work ahead as we prepare for our 2nd season in Winnipeg. When details are confirmed we look forward to communicating with all stakeholders. We will be detailed, thorough, and flexible in our planning for the 2020-2021 regular season. The health and safety of players, billets, staff and ICE fans will be the highest priority in all decisions.
To our season seat (access pass) holders and corporate partners, THANK YOU! We are grateful for your patience, understanding, and support during this very challenging time. It is important that you know how much you are appreciated, we can't wait to welcome you back to the ICE Cave.
At this time we can specifically address a question that has been asked frequently regarding ticket availability. It is very likely that walk-up tickets will not be available this season and only confirmed access pass holders will be permitted to watch home games. The number of spectators will be determined by the local health authorities and approved facility public orders, this will be subject to change as the season progresses.
Our players have been patiently awaiting the opportunity to return and we cannot wait to welcome them back to Winnipeg.
