Winnipeg, MB - The Vegas Golden Knights selected Winnipeg ICE Captain Peyton Krebs 17th overall at the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver on Friday evening.

The Okotoks, Alberta native is the first ICE player to be selected in the first round of the NHL Draft since 2014.

Krebs has played two full seasons with the ICE after being selected first overall by the organization at the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft. The 2001-born forward has scored 37 goals and added 91 assists for 128 points in 137 regular season games.

The 17th overall draft pick has represented his country on the international stage on numerous occasions. Most recently, Krebs wore the 'C' for Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship in April. He was also the captain for Team Canada Red at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. In addition, Krebs was a member of the gold medal winning Canadian squad at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

On Wednesday, Krebs was named to the 43-man roster for Hockey Canada's upcoming National Junior Team Summer Development Camp.

He became the 23rd captain in ICE franchise history in early December 2018.

Krebs becomes the fourth player in ICE franchise history to be selected in the first round of the NHL Draft. The other three include Sam Reinhart (second overall, Buffalo Sabres), Dan Blackburn (10th overall, New York Rangers) and Steve McCarthy (23rd overall, Chicago Blackhawks).

Rounds two through seven of the 2019 NHL Draft will take place beginning at 12:00 p.m. Central Time on Saturday.
