Elmira Jackals News Release

From April 19th to May 2nd, 2004, a miniature golf course will be set up throughout the Arnot Mall as a fundraiser for Compeer. Compeer is a program of Family Services of Chemung County, providing the power of friendship to help people receiving treatment for mental illness live happier, more productive lives. Golf at the Mall is Compeer's major fundraiser event. Not only does it help to raise some much needed funds, but also provides awareness of the program throughout the community.

Local businesses and organizations help Compeer and Golf at the Mall in a number of different ways. The most help comes from our event sponsor, who is NYSEG and our Hole Sponsors. The Hole Sponsors are local businesses or individuals who build incredible miniature golf holes that are set up at the mall for everyone's playing enjoyment. Designers are encouraged to create miniature golf holes that depict the spirit and character of Elmira, Chemung County, or the Southern Tier's history, geography, events, places, architecture, or culture. Those who play miniature golf are asked to vote for the golf hole that is most fun to play, most creative, most attractive and most represents the community.

The 2004 Compeer and NYSEG Miniature Golf at the Mall Hole Design Competition Winners are as follow:

Overall most fun to play, most creative, most attractive and most represents the community – The J.K. Peris/Elmira Jackals Golf Hole

Most represents the community- Chemung Canal Trust Company Golf Hole

Most attractive- Outback Steakhouse Golf Hole

Most creative- Bouille Electric, Inc. Golf Hole

Most fun to play- Cameron Fabrication, Corp. Golf Hole

Awards will be presented to each of the above on May 1st, 2004 at 12:30 pm in front of Kaufman's Department Store at the Arnot Mall. The public is invited to attend the ceremony which will also kick off Chemung County's Mental Health Awareness Month.
