Wings Sweep National Lacrosse League Weekly Awards

The Philadelphia Wings swept the National Lacrosse League's awards in week nine of regular season action. Fourth-year forward Keith Cromwell secured Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week honors for his nine-point performance in the Wings' 14-8 win over the Buffalo Bandits on Friday, February 25. Rookie Andrew Burkholder captured Rookie of the Week honors while veteran goaltender Dallas Eliuk secured Defensive Player of the Week honors for his 50 saves made against the Bandits.

"This caps off just a great effort by our entire team," said Eliuk. "The win over Buffalo was just huge for us. This team has really turned a corner the past couple of weeks, which I think will propel us towards a strong second half of the season."

The Wings sweep is the only the second time that one team captured all four weekly awards in the past four seasons. The feat was also accomplished by the former Montreal Express franchise in November of 2001, following their record setting 32-17 victory over the Calgary Roughnecks in the first game for each team in their expansion seasons. The league expanded its weekly awards from one overall player of the week to four weekly winners (Offense, Defense, Rookie & Overall) for the 2001-2002 season, which started in November of 2001.

Cromwell has 40 points (14G, 26A) to date this season and is the Wings second leading scorer. The Manhasset, NY native has finished third overall in scoring on the team the past two seasons (2004, '03). This is Cromwell's first weekly league award.

Burkholder captured his second consecutive Rookie of the Week award for his four points (2G, 2A) and four loose balls in the Wings win over Buffalo. The St. Catharine's native received Rookie of the Week honors last week for his four goal game against the Minnesota Swarm on Sunday, February 20.

Eliuk captured the Defensive Player of the Week award for the third time this season for his 50 save performance against Buffalo. The fifteen-year goaltender held the Bandits to just one goal in the second half. Eliuk received his previous two awards for a 55 save game against the Arizona Sting on January 7 and a 42 save game against the San Jose Stealth on February 5.

The Wings return to action against the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, March 5 at the Wachovia Center at 8 p.m.
