Philadelphia Wings Sweep NLL Player Awards for Week Nine

Published on March 2, 2005 under National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

The Philadelphia Wings pulled off a big win on Friday when they traveled to Buffalo and defeated the Bandits by a score of 14-8. The Wings avenged a pair of losses to Buffalo during a home and home series in Week #5 and improved to 4-5 to remain close in the East Division race. A trio of Wings players were honored for their performances in the win as they swept the Week #9 player awards. Forward Keith Cromwell, goaltender Dallas Eliuk, and rookie forward Andrew Burkholder were all honored for their performance in the win.

Wings forward Keith Cromwell was named the Overall and Offensive Player of the Week for Week #9. Cromwell lead the Wings with nine points on four goals and five assists and collected seven loose balls in the victory. Cromwell is the first Wings player to win the Offensive and Overall Player of the Week Awards this season.

Goaltender Dallas Eliuk was named the Week #9 Defensive Player of the Week. The veteran goaltender recorded 50 saves and allowed eight goals in the Wings victory to earn the honors. The award is Eliuk's third Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.

Wings rookie forward Andrew Burkholder earned his second consecutive Rookie of the Week honors for his performance in Week #9. Burkholder scored a goal and added two assists for three points and collected four loose balls.

The Wings sweep is the only the second time that one team captured all four weekly awards in the past four seasons. The feat was also accomplished by the former Montreal Express franchise in November of 2001, following their record setting 32-17 victory over the Calgary Roughnecks in the first game for each team in their expansion seasons. The league expanded its weekly awards from one overall player of the week to four weekly winners (Offense, Defense, Rookie & Overall) for the 2001-2002 season, which started in November of 2001.
