Wings Storm Past Anaheim

March 20, 2004 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Wings broke a five-game losing streak with a 14-9 win against Anaheim Saturday night at the Wachovia Center in front of 13,153 fans. Eight players contributed for Philadelphia, led by Ryan Ward and Jeff Ratcliffe with three goals each. Goalie Dallas Eliuk earned the win with 32 saves.

"This is what we've wanted all season," said Wings coach Adam Mueller. "We moved the ball around and had nice, unselfish attack. I couldn't be happier. Having the lead in the third quarter, we didn't take any bad penalties and had no great risks on offense or defense. We need to build on this, remember this feeling and play this type of game next week."

The Storm took the early lead in the first quarter with a goal by Chris Panos. Philadelphia responded with three goals in a minute and a half span. Dan Marohl tied the game at one and Ryan Ward gave the Wings the lead with a power-play goal. Brian Tower added to the lead, but Scott Stewart rounded out the scoring with a goal for the Storm on the man advantage. Philadelphia outshot Anaheim, 14-9, in the quarter.

The Wings took control at the start of the second quarter to take a four-goal lead. Keevin Galbraith opened the scoring and Marohl continued the offense with his second goal of the game. Jeff Ratcliffe netted his first of the game before the Storm changed the momentum with three unanswered goals. Casey Powell chipped in with a pair of goals, while Brian O'Keefe scored one. Philadelphia got its offense going with Ward's second power-play goal of the game and Keith Cromwell finished the scoring in the quarter to give the Wings the 8-5 lead going into the locker rooms.

Philadelphia increased its lead to five at the start of the second half with goals by Ratcliffe and Cromwell. The Storm got back into the game with goals by Richard Morgan, Powell and Marc Morley. Ratcliffe completed the hat trick late in the third quarter, but Anaheim pulled within two goals with a final tally in the last minute of play after pulling goalie Matt Disher for an extra player.

Wings' goalie Dallas Eliuk was perfect in the final quarter, stopping all seven Storm shots. Philadelphia's offense made sure Anaheim had no comeback chances. Tom Marechek, Ward and Bryan Barrett gave the Wings the cushion they needed to earn their first win in six games. Jeff Ratcliffe led the Wings with five points (3G,2A). Seven other players scored goals for Philadelphia, including Keevin Galbraith (1G), Keith Cromwell (2G,3A), Dan Marohl (2G,2A), Brian Tower (1G,A), Ryan Ward (3G), Bryan Barrett (1G,2A) and Tom Marechek (1G,3A).

Casey Powell led the Storm with six points (3G,3A). Five other players scored goals for Anaheim, including Brian O'Keefe (2G), Scott Stewart (1G,1A), Chris Panos (1G,1A), Marc Morley (1G,2A) and Richard Morgan (1G,2A).
