Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The IceHogs didn't have the luck of the Irish on their side Friday night at the MetroCentre, as Kalamazoo defeated Rockford 4-2 in front of 4,044 fans. The game started non-descript enough as both teams failed to score in the first period. The second period, however, provided some offense beginning with a Kalamazoo goal by winger Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn set up by defenseman Adam Elzinga at the 3:47 mark.

Rockford hopped on the board a couple minutes later at 5:39 when winger Jesse Bennefield hit d-man Dan Boeser in the high slot from behind the net, and Boeser blasted a one-timer past Wings goalie Ryan Nie. Kalamazoo went back on top when winger Justin Cross beat Hogs defenseman Mike Letizia in a foot race to the puck in the corner and somehow found the net on an odd-angled shot past Rockford goalie Frederic Cloutier at 10:51

The third period provided more back-and-forth action as Rockford evened things up on a Preston Mizzi wrister at 1:03. The Wings jumped ahead again, this time for good, when forward Nick Bootland hit a rebound in from mid-air off a Cloutier rebound. The wings added an empty netter to seal the 4-2 victory.

Kalamazoo finished the night with 38 shots and went 1-6 on the power play, while Rockford went 0-6 on the man advantage and had 25 shots. Rockford heads to Fort Wayne for a St. Patrick's Day Conference Shootout as the top two teams in Western Conference vie for supremacy. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m.

Next Home Game: Sunday, March 18 vs. Flint Generals. The puck drops at 3:05 p.m. Sundays are $Dollar Days$ brought to you by 97ZOK which means that regular size hot dogs, sodas, peanuts and select candy are only $1. Doors to the MetroCentre open at 1:30 p.m.
