Philadelphia Wings News Release
President and Owner of the Philadelphia Wings, Russ Cline, announced today that Lindsay Sanderson has been relieved of his duties as General Manager. Sanderson was hired on June 23, 2004 as the General Manager and Head Coach of the Wings. He was the sixth General Manager in team history. Sanderson relinquished his coaching responsibilities after the 2007 season and current Head Coach Dave Huntley took over behind the bench for Philadelphia.
"Lindsay is a special individual who has been a friend and loyal member of the Wings. He has worked tireless hours in support of this organization, but the facts are that our team has not made the on field progress that is demanded by our ownership and the fans," said Cline. "We are by no means suggesting that Lindsay bears all the responsibility for our team's lack of success. Over the next few weeks we will evaluate the coaching staff and current players to determine what we have to do to once again be a dominant franchise in this league. The process will move quickly so the franchise can move forward in preparation for the draft, trades, and next season."
The Wings record was 38-42 overall during Sanderson's five year tenure with the team. Before joining Philadelphia, Sanderson started his National Lacrosse League coaching career for the Montreal Express as an assistant. He also served as a coach and General Manager for the Ottawa Rebel (2002-2003) and as an assistant coach for the Toronto Rock (2003-2004).
