Philadelphia Wings News Release
ORLANDO, FL - The Philadelphia Wings (2-8) dropped a close game to the defending East Division Champion Titans (5-3) 11-9 at the Amway Arena. An offensive outburst from Orlando at the beginning of the second quarter proved to be the difference in the tightly contested game. The Wings will return home to Wachovia Center tomorrow night, Saturday, March 13 at 7 p.m. to take on the Minnesota Swarm.
The Wings held a slight edge after the first quarter, getting goals from rookie Max Seibald, David Mitchell, and Bill McGlone. Orlando would add two goals of their own in the first quarter, one coming from former University of Delaware star Jordan Hall. The Titans exploded in the first two and half minutes of the second quarter, scoring four straight goals and prompting Wings Head Coach Dave Huntley to replace starting goalie Brandon Miller with veteran Rob Blasdell. Orlando entered the locker room up two goals behind their quick second quarter start and tenacious defense which kept Philadelphia to just four total first half goals.
Philadelphia's Drew Westervelt had a great second half with three goals, but it was not enough to overtake the Titans. Each team traded goals throughout the second half with each netting three in the third quarter and two in the final period. Westervelt brought the Wings within one goal on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter, but Orlando was able to respond both times to maintain their lead. With the victory Orlando solidified their place at the top of the East Division standings.
