Wings Erase Two 3-Goal Deficits to Beat Calgary
March 2, 2024 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Wings showed their tenacity Saturday afternoon as they erased two three goal deficits en route to an 11-9 victory over the Calgary Roughnecks.
The afternoon started on a positive note with the Wings as Sam LeClair opened the scoring under 3 minutes into regulation, but the Roughnecks battled back hard early, taking a 5-2 lead into the first quarter break. The Wings responded with four straight goals in the second quarter, but after Calgary answered with two goals of their own, the Wings went into the locker room at halftime down 7-6. The third quarter was fairly uneventful in terms of scoring for both teams, but two goals from the Roughnecks had Calgary leading 9-6 heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter may be looked back on as the turning point of the Wings season, as it all came together on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The Wings shut out the Roughnecks, scoring 5 unanswered goals to seal their first win at home on the year and get to 4 wins and 6 losses on the season.
Joe Resetarits (2G, 3A) and Mitch Jones (2G, 3A) led the way in scoring with 5 points each on the night, Sam LeClair notched a first half hat trick, and Holden Cattoni, Blaze Riorden, Scott Dominey, and Chad Tutton all found the back of the net once on the night. Isaiah Davis-Allen held his own at the faceoff with Nick Rowlett out with an injury, winning just under 50% of the draws, and Zach Higgins was once again the keystone of the defense, making 50 saves on the night. Another bright spot for the Wings was Mitch Armstrong, their first draft pick from the 2023 NLL draft who returned to action for the first time in 2024 after an upper body injury.
The Wings are now 1 game out of a playoff position with 8 games remaining in the regular season. They are back in action next Sunday at 3PM as they host the Panther City Lacrosse Club for their first matchup of the season.
