Wings Drop 2nd to Rock
March 4, 2011 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings (4-6) dropped another National Lacrosse League (NLL) game to the Toronto Rock (9-2) on a Black out Breast Cancer night at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, ON.
The flat Wings defense of last week was long gone, but the Rock would score first on a Pat Maddalena goal shortly after the six minute mark in the first quarter. Drew Westervelt fed Alex Turner with a quick diving pitch to get the scoring started for the Wings. Goalie Brandon Miller was hungry for some of offense as he had three crease to crease outlet passes, two resulting in goals by David Brock and big man Paul Dawson. The first half ended with the Wings within one of the Rock.
The Wings came out hot in the third quarter. Forward Athan Iannucci (4g) found the seam to split the Toronto defense and tie the game at seven. Nooch scored again with two minutes left in the third on a diving goal after a quick head fake in front of the crease. Alex Turner (2g) and Matt Alrich (2g) would also score for the Wings. The momentum would not carry to the fourth for the Wings. Toronto out scored the Wings 5-1, the largest margin of the game.
The Philadelphia Wings return home to the Wells Fargo Center tomorrow night to host the Clagary Roughnecks at 7 p.m. Custom, lime green game jerseys will be auctioned off post-game to benefit the HEADstrong Foundation. Lower level tickets start at $10 and are available online at www.wingslax.com or by phone at 215-389-WING (9464).
